During the months of February until August 2022, both lived in Antwerp. Both work processes depend on a freezing act, a sort of fleeting-flash-image of a relationship and a shared research motif: how death and the ritualistic production of objects and signs around it, can affect the personal. Whatever medium is being acted upon, a necessity surges to think - or to deal - with death and this transient space that is created between lived and produced experience.
Between two houses, there was a relationship with the camera that was never strange. Very similar to the relationship that one can have with death, this kind of surreptitious friendship that can be both comfort, surrender and confidence. And, like writing, filming demands a certain continuity, whether or not it runs the risk of falling into a diaristic act. Writing requires more writing, just as filming requires more filming.
The filming, never the film, was Derek Jarman's motto, which encapsulates a way of working with media that are close and dear to us. The process (as an experience) has as much or more importance than the final product.
